All Clara wanted was a key, a unique key that would open a priceless gift box, a souvenir from her dead mother. A golden thread given to him at his godfather Drosselmeyer's annual holiday party directs him to the desired key. But the key quickly disappears in a strange and mysterious parallel world. There, Clara encounters a soldier named Phillip, a gang of mice, and the rulers who rule three lands: the Land of Snowflakes, the Land of Flowers, and the Land of Sweets. Clara and Phillip must brave the sinister Fourth Realm, home of cruel Mother Ginger, to retrieve Clara's key and bring harmony back to the disordered world.
